The Amazon Mishap: A Suspicious Data Leak and Its Aftermath

Amazon logo, symbolising the company at the center of the incident

A suspicious hack ensued at Amazon back in 2018 which affected customers internationally, just two days before Black Friday (21/11/18). Amazon accidentally posted millions of customer email addresses onto their website in November due to a technical issue that left people even more confused and wondering how serious the breach may be following an email sent by Amazon:

“Hello,

We're contacting you to let you know that our website inadvertently disclosed your email address due to a technical error. The issue has been fixed. This is not a result of anything you have done, and there is no need for you to change your password or take any other action.

Sincerely,

Customer Service”

Thoughts: It’s a wonder how such a breach could occur in an international industry like Amazon, it's even more curious why they swept it under the rug and discourage customers to improve their security.
