Pizza Hut Australia Hacked

Pizza Hut Australia has now become the second Australian franchise attacked this month, with no rest for Aussies who are still recovering from the Dymocks cyber attack

It has been reported that Cyber Criminals have stolen nearly 200,000 Aussie customer records in the data breach with Pizza Hut. Last Wednesday, a spokesperson for Pizza Hut Australia announced that they had become aware of the cyber incident in early of September, the spokesperson said that the data breach has only affected the Australian market.

"We took immediate action to protect our customers and our systems by engaging cyber security specialists to help us understand what occurred, assess the impact, and take steps to secure the data," the Pizza Hut spokesperson said.

"At this stage, we have confirmed that the data impacted relates to customer record details held on our customer database which includes information such as a customer's name, delivery address and instructions, email address and contact number….”

What now for affected Aussie customers?

Pizza Hut has assured the affected Aussie customers that an investigation is underway and that as of now the compromised data is not leaked anywhere on the wide web, including the dark web.

"From our investigation and the steps taken in response to the incident, we believe there is only a small proportion of customers on our database [193,000] whose personal information has been impacted.... Out of an abundance of caution, we have contacted the other current customers in our database to inform them of the incident and provide steps they can take to protect their personal information," the spokesperson said.

The fast food chain has reached out to the impacted clients and informed them of the cyber attack. Pizza Hut Australia has informed the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) of the cyber attack and also alerted the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) of the incident that has occurred.
